The "Peace Sign" was designed by Gerald Holmes as a logo for the British Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) in the 1950s and was subsequently adopted by the anti-war and counterculture activists in the US and elsewhere. It is a superimposition of the semaphore (visual signaling) signals for the letters "N" and "D". Doves have long been associated with peace, and the symbol is seen by some as the impression of a dove's toe on the ground. Today it is also known as the symbol of "peace and love". Sterling Silver.
